The privately-owned Hotel St. Gotthard is located as the first hotel on the famous shopping street Bahnhofstrasse in Zurich. Zurich Hauptbahnhof is just a few meters from the hotel, and the Zurich Old Town, Lake Zurich, and Bellevueplatz are easily accessible on foot. There is a direct train to the airport.
During World War II, U.S. General Eisenhower and British Field Marshal Montgomery met at the Hotel St. Gotthard in 1942 for discussions. The hotel has long been a popular meeting place. Other notable guests have included Henri Guisan, Henry Kissinger, and the Dalai Lama, as well as Maria Callas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Swiss Federal Councillors.
